Auszug: Dominik Tischleder – Die hilflose Anrufung des „Abendlandes“ ist womöglich Ausdruck eines verzweifelten Relativismus

«Nun, da nach Lage der Dinge das „Abendland“ wie auch die „Leitkultur“ nicht mehr vorhanden sind, sondern faktisch, egal wie bedrohlich oder sonstwie unschön man das findet, einem Pluralismus der Lebensformen weichen mussten, ist all das, was dann einem „Abendländer“ als besonders „abendländisch“ gilt, für seine Mitbürger nicht mehr unmittelbar einsichtig und bindend. Deshalb kann man in leichter Abwandlung Carl Schmitts formulieren: „Wer Abendland sagt, will geltend machen und durchsetzen. Tugenden übt man aus; Normen wendet man an; Befehle werden vollzogen, aber das Abendland wird gesetzt und durchgesetzt.“

In der Benutzung des Begriffs spiegelt sich eine Machtfrage: Wer interpretiert die Geschichte? Gleichsam also das Interesse derjenigen, die sie beantworten und nun auf Durchsetzung drängen. Vor allem wird das, was „Abendland“ inhaltlich ausmachen soll, rettungslos durch die jeweils gerade aktuellen politischen Lagen und Wertvorstellungen bestimmt, heute sind es eben die „judeo-christlichen Werte“, früher mehr die Werte der „Volksgemeinschaft“ oder die Abendlandwerte der „Grand Nation“.

Die hilflose Anrufung des „Abendlandes“ in politischer Absicht ist, entgegen seiner Intention, womöglich selbst Ausdruck eines verzweifelten Relativismus, denn in der Nutzbarmachung ist sie eben nicht Ausdruck einer Gemeinschaft, die versucht, das Gute zu erkennen und zu tun, sondern selbstgerechter Ausdruck derer, die die Wahrheit beziehungsweise das, was sie dafür halten, bereits gefunden haben. Ein Zug zur Gesinnungsschnüffelei wird so unvermeidlich, denn um Gesinnung geht es ja, wenn man genötigt wird, sich zu irgendwelchen gerade aktuellen „Abendlandwerten“ zu bekennen, nur weil man beispielsweise ein rechtschaffener, hier wohnender Bürger islamischen Glaubens ist.»
